The Arnaudville Area Today
Posted by Khaki Scott on October 18, 2009
As I look forward to moving back to Arnaudville (from just across the northern St. Landry Parish line), I cannot help but get excited about seeing old friends and meeting new ones too! I also find myself trying to explain, to far away friends and family, “Why Arnaudville?” The answer to that question is huge and actually necessitated the building of this site. So – come on along. Let us show you this magical little area that is tucked away on a back road in the heart of Acadiana.
First, we have to begin with a little something about why, in this day and age, anyone would get off of the interstate highways and consider any of the little towns in our area. The answer to that is luxury living – but not the kind you think. Here, luxury living is a lifestyle that is being defined and created in a totally new way.
Luxury branding emphasizes value, craftsmanship and exclusivity. The world is now a full decade into the 21st century and in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Glitz and “bling” are out. People are looking for high quality and lasting value in every dollar they spend and a significant return on their investment for every ounce of energy they put into their communities.
The Arnaudville Area, bordered on the north by Hwy 190, on the south by I-10, on the west by I-49, and on the east by the Atchafalaya Basin is thriving because it is investing in itself and in its people. In the cities, high-end homes and apartments may have seen their values plunge, or sales become stagnant – but in the Arnaudville area, property values are holding their own and often increasing. However, today’s more conscientious consumers are looking for more than just a pretty house. Today, potential residents are beginning to present long lists of quality of life requirements to the areas that court them for their real estate investment dollars. Suddenly, that home for sale needs more than a luxury master bath or a gourmet kitchen. Now, it needs to be near green spaces, art galleries, concerts and language lessons; and a symphony nearby would only sweeten the pot. The same is true of long-term residents. If an area wants to keep their current residents and add to their numbers, it cannot be done unless there is a reason to stay. That reason is the same in every sales transaction. Today, the buyer, be they long term resident or potential new-to-the-area homeowner, must find value, craftsmanship and exclusivity in the quality of life in the place they call home.
Craftsmanship and exclusivity in quality of life? Sure! Why not?
Suppose that “style conscious and upscale” had a different meaning than the one usually associating that phase with how much money one has? Suppose crafting a good life meant celebrating one’s talents and the talents of one’s neighbors? Suppose quality of life meant rebuilding an entire area with the characteristics that people have always longed for so wistfully? Suppose a big storm came and, when it was over, a little town at the junction of 2 historic bayous had the chance to do just that? Suppose that little town decided that every resident, young or old, rich or poor, new to the area or long-time resident is going to be able to proclaim that no one anywhere has a better life than they have?
